Lock Haven Pins 3-0 Loss on Lakers

California, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College volleyball team concluded its 2008 campaign Thursday evening, falling to Lock Haven, 3-0, in the first round of the NCAA Volleyball Championship in California, Pa. The Lakers, who finish with their best record since the 2002 season at 21-15, were defeated by the scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-22.

Senior Lauren Kubinski led the offense with six kills while senior Jenna Matson and sophomore Katie Fritz tied for second with four apiece. Junior Julia Butler assisted on 16 of the team's 21 total kills in the match. On the defensive side of the ball, Butler registered nine digs followed by sophomore Kendall Ashworth with eight and Matson at seven.
 
Stacy Borgia, the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division Player of the Year, marked 12 kills and 15 digs to highlight the match.
 
Lock Haven will now advance to play the winner of the Elizabeth City State / California (Pa.) game in the NCAA Regional Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 21.
