Lakers And Falcons Skate To 1-1 Draw

Erie, Pa. – Sophomore Steve Cameron scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season and sophomore Ryan Zapolski made 36 saves as the Mercyhurst College men's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Atlantic Hockey foe Bentley Saturday evening at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

With the draw, the Lakers are now 1-8-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in conference play while the Falcons move to 3-4-1 and 2-2-1 in the league.

After playing through almost two periods of scoreless hockey, Bentley broke the ice late in the second period when Pat Parcella got past the Lakers defense and rung a shot off the crossbar for the 1-0 lead with 2:36 remaining.

Mercyhurst tied the game midway through the third period thanks to a shot from Cameron that sailed near post past Bentley's Kyle Rank at the 10:56 mark. Senior Brett Robinson and junior Scott Pitt made the play possible with the assists on the power-play score.

Despite the teams combining for 67 shots in the game, the goaltenders were up to task. Zapolski stopped 36 of the Falcons' 37 shots in just his first start of the season while Rank held the Lakers in check with 33 saves.

The Lakers continue their four-game homestand next weekend when 2007-08 Atlantic Hockey Regular Season Champion Army pays a visit to the Ice Center on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22. Game times are set for 7:05 p.m. both nights.
