West Chester, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's volleyball team won its first of three matches on the weekend, defeating East Stroudsburg Friday night 25-13, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20. All three matches are being played at West Chester University.

Julia Butler guided a balanced offense by dishing out 53 assists. Erin English and Lauren Kubinski each finished with 15 kills, while Jenna Matson added 13 to go with 15 digs. Katie Fritz had nine kills and Justine Smith had seven kills and three blocks. Kendall Ashworth had a team-high 18 digs and Butler added three service aces.

East Stroudsburg falls to 10-10 with the loss and Mercyhurst improves to 11-8. The Lakers will continue play at West Chester Saturday by meeting Millersville at 12:30 p.m. and West Chester at 3 p.m.
