California, Pa. – The California (Pa.) women's volleyball team, ranked No. 19 in the country, improved to 30-1 on the year and remained unbeaten in PSAC West play by defeating Mercyhurst 25-18, 25-19, 25-19 Tuesday. The Lakers fell to 18-10 with the loss.
Erin English led Mercyhurst with nine kills but the Lakers lost to Cal in three sets for the second time this year. Katie Fritz and Jenna Matson added six kills apiece and Kendall Ashworth had eight digs. Julia Butler finished with 25 assists and 10 digs.
California remains at the top of the PSAC West with a 9-0 conference record. Mercyhurst remains in third at 5-3 in league play. The Lakers will next host rival Gannon Saturday at 7 p.m. Mercyhurst defeated the Golden Knights in five sets earlier this year.
