Tyler Travis

Tyler Travis is now in his 10th season as Strength and Conditioning coach for the men’s and women’s ice hockey program and has recently been promoted to Director of Strength and Conditioning for all 25 Mercyhurst University sports. He has over 15 years of experience training professional, college, high school, and youth athletes. In addition to his coaching, Travis is active in the Erie community as the Director and Business Developer at Erie Sports Now Fitness & Performance Center by providing programming, coaching and sports performance clinics for all ages and training skills, onsite and remotely.

Travis serves in a strength and conditioning role with USA Hockey National Player Development summer camps (2018, 2019, and 2021). He was also the strength and conditioning resource for the 3Ice 2022 summer season. Travis previously worked in a strength and conditioning role with the Erie Bayhawks in the NBA Development League.

Travis, an Erie, Pa. native, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University, the Behrend College, and then went on to earn his Master's degree in Exercise Physiology from Minnesota State University at Mankato. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Travis is also certified by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as an Exercise Physiologist and is Certified EXOS Performance Specialist.

Travis teaches as an adjunct instructor for exercise science at Mercyhurst. He specializes in the development of performance programs and is a Functional Movement Screen Certified Specialist. He is also certified as a sports performance coach through USA Weightlifting.


Travis resides in Erie with his wife, Beth, and their two boys, Matthew and David.
