Mercyhurst University Athletics

Louis Goulet

Louis Goulet enters his eighth season with the Mercyhurst University women’s hockey program. In 2011, Goulet was promoted to Associate Head Coach, after working for four years as the assistant coach.

Goulet had an immediate impact on the Laker offense in just his first season, following a successful professional career that saw him spend time in the East Coast Hockey League, the American Hockey League and a season overseas in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

The Kapuskasing, Ontario native helped the Laker offense rank in the top-3 nationally during their run to the national championship game. Several Lakers saw their numbers increase drastically, including three-time All-American Meghan Agosta, who broke the school-record for points in a season and became the seventh player in NCAA history to score 100 goals in a career.

Prior to joining head coach Michael Sisti, Goulet played his last two seasons of pro-hockey with the Augusta Lynx of the ECHL. He became the Lynx all-time leading scorer in 2008, capping his ECHL-career with 94 goals and 273 points.

Goulet also spent time with the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL in 2005-06, the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL in 2003-04, the Lynx again in 2003-05, the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL in 2002-03, and the Orlando Seals of the ACHL in 2002-03. In that first season with the Seals, Goulet broke out with 20 goals and 80 points to earn the title of ACHL Rookie of the Year.

A 2002 graduate of Mercyhurst College, Goulet played four seasons of collegiate hockey with head coach Rick Gotkin and the men’s hockey program.

He was the ECAC West Rookie of the Year in 1998-99, during which he amassed 34 points in 28 games. A year later, he was part of the Mercyhurst team that made the move to the Division I-level. He was a Second Team All-MAAC choice in both his sophomore and junior seasons and elevated himself to the conference’s first team in his final year, the same season the team won the MAAC Hockey League Playoffs and battled Michigan to the very end in a 4-3 loss in the NCAA West Regional. Goulet ranks sixth all-time at Mercyhurst with 157 career points.

Goulet currently resides in Erie, Pa., with his wife, Jamie, their son, Kodi, and their daughter, Rylee.
