Matthew Wells has joined the Mercyhurst men's lacrosse coaching staff as a graduate assistant. He is a 2016 graduate of Mercyhurst, where he majored in intelligence studies. Wells then began graduate school in 2017 during his final year of athletic eligibility.
Wells waited out two seasons of limited playing time, making only seven appearances in his first two years of eligibility, before assuming the No. 1 goalkeeper position in 2016, when he was named Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Goalie of the Year.
In his four years, Wells played in 39 contests and made 28 starts. In 1861:26 of playing time, he allowed 201 goals to compile a 6.48 goals-against average. He stopped 212 shots and finished with a 25-6 record.
Along with earning the top ECAC goalie accolade in 2016, Wells was named All-ECAC First Team. After the Laker program transitioned to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in 2017, Wells was an All-G-MAC Second Team honoree.
Wells is a native of Fayetteville, N.Y.
