Gavin Bechtol was born on June 19th, 1993, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He began his academic journey at Kalamazoo Community College from 2011 to 2012 and later attended Western Michigan University from 2013 to 2014.
Gavin started his hockey equipment managing career in the 2017-2018 season with the Roanoke Railyard Dawgs in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Following a successful season in Roanoke, he was promoted to the ECHL, becoming the head equipment manager for the Rapid City Rush. Gavin served in this role for three seasons, from 2018 to 2021.
After his tenure in Rapid City, Gavin moved to Des Moines, Iowa, to work for the Iowa Wild in the American Hockey League (AHL) as their assistant equipment manager. He held this position for two seasons, from 2021 to 2023.
In 2023, Mercyhurst University offered Gavin the opportunity to become the Head Equipment Manager of the Men's Ice Hockey program. He has embraced this role with enthusiasm and plans to remain at Mercyhurst for as long as possible. Gavin and his family have grown to love Mercyhurst and the Erie community, and they are excited to be a part of the Lakers' future.
