Jonathan Ouegnin joins the Laker coaching staff after a strong playing career at Mercyhurst. The Paris, France, native graduated in May 2014 and will now attend graduate school at Mercyhurst.

Ouegnin played 109 career games, averaging 5.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per contest. He shot 48.2 percent from the floor. As a junior, he dished out nearly four assists per game and made several highlight-reel plays. On February 2, 2013, Mercyhurst and California (Pa.) were tied late in overtime. Ouegnin collected an offensive rebound and circled out to the left wing, where he launched a 25-foot three-pointer at the buzzer. The shot swished through the net as time expired, giving the Lakers a 70-67 victory at the MAC.

On February 20, 2013, Ouegnin made a bigger name for himself. Facing rival Gannon, he took a handoff from Luis Leao on the right wing and drove inside. Ouegnin took off from the center of the lane, elevating over one GU defender and avoiding the block attempt of another. The left-handed dunk will go down as one of the greatest plays in MAC history. Ouegnin was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays, landing at #3 on the night. The play was shown on a number of ESPN platforms. Ouegnin’s throwdown earned him a spot in the 2012-13 College Dunk of the Year contest, where he eventually advanced to the final four.
Â
In his senior season, Ouegnin put together his best campaign. He led the Lakers in field goal percentage (52.6), made free throws (73), rebounds per game (4.9), assists per game (3.2), and steals per game (1.7). He also ranked second in scoring (8.8) and minutes per game (29.3). Ouegnin was named All-PSAC Western Division Second Team following the season.Â
