Tevin Stewart joins the Mercyhurst coaching staff after a strong four-year career as a defensive back for the Lakers.
A native of Duval, Fla., Stewart redshirted as a true freshman in 2011 before earning playing time in on Mercyhurst's special-teams and defensive-backfield units. He became a regular in 2013, earning his first start on September 14.
Following his redshirt-senior year, Stewart was named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Second team. He totaled 38 tackles that season and finished with five interceptions for 119 yards and one touchdown. Stewart also had 12 pass breakups and one fumble recovery. The five picks tied for ninth-most in MU single-season history.
Career-wise, Stewart ranks tied for 11th all-time in school history with eight career interceptions. In 36 games as a Laker, he totaled 75 tackles, including one for-loss. Stewart also had 13 pass breakups and two fumble recoveries.
Prior to attending Mercyhurst, Stewart played football and basketball and competed in track and field at Eagle's View Academy. He was an All-First Coast selection on the gridiron.
Stewart graduated from Mercyhurst with a degree in hospitality management.
