Joe Walker is in his first year on the Mercyhurst football coaching staff. He will assist in coaching the outside linebackers. He brings a great amount of playing -- and some coaching -- experience to the Laker staff. He played for Wisconsin-Platteville in 2015 and then became a student assistant coach for the quarterbacks in his second year.
Walker was part of a UW-Platteville staff that led the team to an 8-3 record and NCAA Tournament appearance. As a student assistant with the quarterbacks, he helped the starting QB earn All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team honors. That player was also All-Region Third Team while finishing third in the nation in TD passes (37) while throwing only five interceptions.
Before arriving at Platteville, Walker spent two seasons at Lackawanna in Scranton, Pa. He competed there for the starting quarterback spot. He studied business at Lackawanna before switching to secondary education at Platteville.
Walker is a native of Woodbridge, Va., where he graduated from Forest Park High School in 2013.
Prior to Wisconsin-Platteville, Walker spent two seasons (2013, 2014) at Lackawanna College in Scranton, PA. During his time at Lackawanna he competed for the starting position at quarterback. .Â
