Jaylen McNair joined Mercyhurst University as the Running Backs coach in March of 2023. He will enter his second season with the Lakers this fall of 2024, being elevated from Graduate Assistant to Assistant Coach and Video Coordinator.
In his first year with the Lakers in 2023, McNair helped Mercyhurst to a successful year on the ground with the team receiving an All-PSAC nod in the form of Jaylen Butera who was named to the Second Team by the conference. Butera had a record-setting day under McNair on homecoming against Slippery Rock in a game in which he ran for 204 yards in total on 27 attempts, scoring three times in the game. McNair helped Butera keep things rolling in his next game with 182 yards and two rushing touchdowns for a total of 386 yards and five TDs in two games.
Previously McNair was at Tiffin University assisting in coaching the quarterbacks during the 2022 season. He entered the 2023 off-season coaching the running backs.
McNair played five years in the Mountain East Conference (Division II) as a quarterback. In his first three seasons (2017-19) McNair was a starter at Glenville State University before transferring to Alderson Broaddus University where he started his last two seasons (2020-21). He would then go on to graduate with a BS in Education.
McNair is originally from Harrisonburg, Virginia and graduated from East Rockingham High School in 2017 and now resides in Erie.
