Brendan Boylan is in his second year as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Mercyhurst football team. He was previously on the Laker staff in 2016. He is back after serving one year as a graduate assistant at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas.

In his first season as quarterbacks coach, starting quarterback Doug Altavilla broke the Laker career passing record and become the first Mercyhurst player to cross over 8,000 career passing yards.

Boylan is listed in the Mercyhurst record books. He ranks fourth all-time in passing yards (4,320) and sixth in total yards (4,436). Boylan holds the school record for passing yards in one game (544 vs. California, Pa., in 2014). He completed 296 of 503 passes during his tenure for a 58.8 percent completion percentage. He threw 43 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while on his was to a 153.6 efficiency rating.

A native of Independence, Ohio, Boylan redshirted as a true freshman in 2011 before earning playing time on special teams -- mostly as a holder -- in 2012 and 2013. Finally, in 2014, he stepped in as a regular on offense, going 7-2 as a starting QB, including seven consecutive victories to close the season. He was the Lakers’ leading passer as a senior.

In 2014, Boylan set the school record for total offense in a season, finishing with 3,105 yards. His 2,952 passing yards that season fell short of the school record by 31.

Prior to attending Mercyhurst, Boylan went to Holy Name High School where he lettered in football and baseball. There, he earned a number of accolades, including being a First Team All-League selection.

He graduated from Mercyhurst with a degree in sport business.
