Townsend enters his third season as a member of Mercyhurst's coaching staff in the 2023 season with this being his first season as a full-time member of the staff.
Mercyhurst has totaled over 2,000 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons with Townsend on the coaching staff while hauling in a total of 31 touchdowns. Laker wide receivers have had a handful of major performances over the last two years with five instances of 100 or more receiving yards in one game including Cameron Barmore and Trevon Tate both reaching that mark against Cal (Pa.) on 10/29/22.
Over the course of his time working with the team's receiving core, the Lakers have had one All-PSAC selection in Jason Armstrong in 2021 who led the team in catches with 37 while racking up 400 yards and four receiving touchdowns. There have been three instances of a player eclipsing 400 yards under Townsend's tutelage over the course of his first two years with Cameron Barmore's 583 yards in 2022 being the most since the 2017 campaign.
Prior to Mercyhurst, Townsend spent four years as a student assistant at Old Dominion University.
