The Gillard Rowing Center, in Findley Lake, N.Y., houses the Mercyhurst University fleet of Hudson eights and fours. Findley Lake provides a sheltered piece of water on which to train, allowing for optimal water training in the fall and spring seasons. Student-athletes also make great use of indoor training facilities on campus in Erie, Pa. The rowing facility house’s an erg room equipped with 20 Concept II’s, 16 RP3 machines, and 4 Concept II erg bikes. The facility also includes a 10-station indoor rowing tank as well as weight equipment and 7 spin bikes. This facility allows the coaches and athletes to work closely together to improve rowing technique and train throughout the winter.
The team celebrates spring break in late February by traveling south for ten days of training. This training camp is a great way to get intense water training while enhancing team unity.
