In its inaugural season in 2009, the Laker Gridiron Club was formed to offer aid and support to the Mercyhurst University football program by:
1) Raising awareness of the football program both on-campus and within the communities served by Mercyhurst University.
2) Planning and administering fundraising efforts to both support the Mercyhurst football program and alleviate some of the cost of that program to the University.
3) Strengthening the bond between Mercyhurst University and its football alumni and its current football community.
4) Assisting in the execution of the Mercyhurst University football mission statement, which seeks "to help young people reach their highest potential in the classroom, community and on the field. To develop the whole person. To lead fulfilling and productive careers and family lives. To understand our role to help others and strive for excellence."
