ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Mercyhurst lost to Saint Louis 4-1 on Sunday. The Lakers were held to two shots, both in the first quarter, and their goalkeeping totaled 11 saves.
Victoria Campana kept the first quarter scoreless through Saint Louis' first push, saving a Saint Louis shot at 8:46 before Saint Louis had two attempts blocked around a penalty corner. The Lakers converted their first penalty-corner chance, with Kailyn Smith starting the sequence at 10:11, Finja Wunner's shot blocked at 10:15 and Ava Jones scoring at 10:16 off Wunner's assist for a 1-0 lead. Saint Louis earned another late corner at 14:41, but Campana saved a Saint Louis shot at 14:51, and the Lakers finished the quarter ahead 1-0.
Campana handled Saint Louis' early pressure in the second quarter, saving three Saint Louis attempts at 17:15, 17:46 and 18:30. Saint Louis later earned a penalty corner at 26:32, and Saint Louis scored at 28:28 to tie the game at 1-1. Saint Louis kept pressing in the final minute, with a shot sent wide and Campana stopping another Saint Louis attempt at 29:42, leaving the game tied at halftime.
Saint Louis produced the first sustained pressure of the third quarter, putting a shot wide at 33:24 and earning three penalty corners before Saint Louis converted a penalty stroke at 39:58. Lakers goalkeeper Campana kept the deficit from growing immediately after another Saint Louis corner, saving two Saint Louis shots at 41:22 and 41:32. Saint Louis added another goal off a penalty-corner sequence at 43:01, and the quarter ended with the Lakers trailing 3-1.
The Lakers created the first attacking chance of the fourth quarter with Smith's penalty corner at 45:37. Saint Louis came back with a corner and a wide shot, then scored at 47:07 to put the score at 4-1. Hailey Leisering entered in goal for the Lakers after the goal and stopped three Saint Louis shots over the remainder of the quarter, with Saint Louis also earning a late corner before closing out the 4-1 result.
