ERIE, Pa. – Mercyhurst Director of Athletics Joe Spano announced Tara Friedman as the department's Director of Athletic Development. Friedman expands her role with the Lakers as she continues to serve as head women's golf coach.
 
In her new role, Friedman will oversee corporate sponsorships and all major fundraising efforts for the athletic department, building a sustainable development pipeline that supports Mercyhurst's programs, facilities, and student-athletes as the university completes its transitions to NCAA Division I.
 
"We are extremely excited to welcome Tara into this role," Spano said. "She has already been instrumental in securing corporate sponsorships and partnerships for our department, her energy, experience and understanding of our community make her exactly the right person to lead our development efforts as we grow into the DI era."
 
Friedman transitions into the full-time role with athletics from her position as Director of Community and Corporate Relations with the University Advancement department.
 
Last year, Friedman helped spearhead the first Laker Gala, a new annual fundraiser benefiting the athletic department. She's also worked closely with athletics over the last year to bolster Mercyhurst's ties in the community and strength corporate relationships.
