ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst fell to LIU with a final score of 13–3 on Friday. Despite the loss, the Lakers managed a home run among its 10 hits, while LIU capitalized on a ten-run sixth inning to secure the victory.
Mercyhurst took an early lead in the third inning.
Ranciel Ventura singled to left field, followed by
Zachary Kourous' single to the catcher.
Luke Babcock then delivered a single to right center, scoring Ventura.
Mike Samarin contributed with an RBI single to center, bringing home Kourous. The Lakers led 2–0 through three innings.
In the fourth inning,
Dana Williams extended the Lakers' lead with a solo home run, making it 3–0.
However, the sixth inning marked a turning point as LIU scored ten runs. The Sharks' RBI single was followed by a series of walks and hits, including a two-run single and a three-run double. The inning ended with a two-run homer, putting LIU ahead 10–3.
LIU added three more runs in the eighth inning with two RBI singles and a RBI double, extended their lead to 13–3.
The game concluded with LIU defeating the Lakers 13–3.
Matthew Delvaux delivered a strong starting performance for the Lakers, pitching five innings with five strikeouts while allowing two earned runs on three hits.
Nolan Kirsch faced challenges in his outing, recording no outs and surrendering five earned runs on three hits and one walk.
Noah Ehlers contributed one inning of work, giving up three earned runs on two hits, including a home run, while striking out one.
Anthony Krause closed the game with two innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and striking out one, while managing to catch one runner stealing.
