Lakers Drop Tight Matchup To Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Mercyhurst fell to Le Moyne in a high-scoring affair, 11–10, on Sunday at Dick Rockwell Field. Despite hitting five home runs, the Lakers were unable to hold off a late six-run rally by Le Moyne in the ninth inning.

Le Moyne jumped to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning on a three-run home.

The Lakers got on the board in the third inning when Parker Zeiser homered to left field. By the end of the third, the score was 3–1 in favor of Le Moyne.

The Lakers tied the game in the fourth inning. Luke Babcock and Dana Williams each hit solo home runs, leveling the score at 3–3.

In the fifth inning, Mercyhurst took the lead with three more runs. Riley Ames scored on a double by Zachary Kourous, and Mike Samarin followed with a two-RBI single. However, Le Moyne responded with two unearned runs, narrowing Mercyhurst's lead to 6–5.

Mercyhurst extended its lead in the seventh inning with a two-run homer by Kourous, which also scored Jayden Walker. This put Mercyhurst ahead 8–5.

In the ninth inning, Babcock hit his second home run, a two-RBI shot, increasing Mercyhurst's total to 10. However, Le Moyne rallied in the bottom of the ninth, scoring six runs to clinch the game. 

Le Moyne secured the victory with a final score of 11–10.

Andrew Malec pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits while issuing five walks and striking out three batters. He threw a total of 111 pitches, with 62 recorded as strikes. Zac Evenson relieved Malec, contributing two innings of work with two earned runs on one hit and striking out 3. Mitch Harder closed the game, pitching 0.2 inning and allowing four earned runs on three hits, with one walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Jayden Walker posted a strong performance with three hits and three runs, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output. Zachary Kourous added power with a home run, recording two hits and three RBIs in the game. Luke Babcock showcased his batting strength by hitting two home runs, driving in three runs while also scoring twice. Mike Samarin effectively supported the team's scoring efforts with two RBIs and one hit.

In their next game, the Lakers will take the field at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, against Kent State at Mercyhurst Baseball Field in Erie, Pennsylvania.
