ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst fell to Norfolk State with a final score of 4-0 on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Lakers managed seven hits, including two doubles, but could not convert them into runs.
In the second inning, Norfolk State capitalized on a pair of walks and a two-run single to take an early lead, bringing in two runs. The inning concluded with Norfolk State ahead 2-0.
In the fifth inning, the Spartans added to their lead with an RBI single, increasing their advantage to 3-0. -0.
In the seventh inning, the Spartans had another RBI single, pushing their lead to 4-0.
Despite several hits, including a double by
Jayden Walker, the Lakers were unable to score throughout the game. The final score was Norfolk St. 4, Mercyhurst 0.
Andrew Malec started for the Lakers, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking four. He threw 93 pitches, 54 of which were strikes, resulting in a WHIP of 2.38.
Nolan Kirsch provided relief, pitching 2.1 innings, striking out three, and allowing just one earned run on three hits with a WHIP of 1.90.
Mark Collinger closed out the game, pitching two scoreless innings without allowing a hit, issuing three walks, and recording one strikeout.
Walker recorded two hits, including a double, contributing to an OPS of 1.250.
