Box Score 3 Game 1 vs. Marymount
The Mercyhurst flag football fell to Marymount in the program's inaugural game, 14-20. The Lakers scored both of its touchdowns in the second quarter, including a notable 42-yard rushing touchdown.
The first quarter began with Marymount taking possession and initiating its offensive drive at its own 14-yard line. Jesenia Velez spearheaded the effort with a 7-yard rush, but the drive stalled after a series of short gains and incomplete passes.
The Lakers then took over, but struggled to advance, with a pair of incomplete passes and a short rush. The Lakers punted on their first drive of the game.
The Saints scored on the following possession, rushing 25 yards into the endzone. They converted a 1-point pass attempt to make it 7-0 in favor of Marymount.
Mercyhurst tied the game at seven on their next drive.
Ellie Schau completed a 60-yard touchdown pass to
God'iss Santos for the program's first touchdown.
The Lakers got a stop on the following Marymount drive and capitalized, scoring on their next possession. On 4
th-and-2,
Ellie Schau rushed for a 42-yard touchdown and completed the PAT herself.
The half ended with the Lakers up 14-7.
After several unsuccessful offensive possessions for both teams to open the second half, Marymount took the lead on a 10-yard touchdown rush. They were unsuccessful on the PAT attempt, keeping Mercyhurst in front 14-13.
The Lakers couldn't add to their lead on the following drive, giving Marymount the opportunity to score the game-winning touchdown on the next possession. The Saints completed a 13-yard pass to take a 20-14 lead and win the opening game as Mercyhurst was stalled on their final drive.
Game 2 vs. Allegheny
The Lakers scored early and often in their second game of the day against Allegheny. Schau found Madison Nuesele for an 9-yard touchdown. On the first play of the proceeding Allegheny drive,
Cameryn Mullaly intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown to make the Mercyhurst advantage 13-0.
The Lakers defense was suffocating for the Gator, resulting in a drive for negative yards. Mercyhurst scored again, making it 20-0 courtesy of a Schau pass to
Maria Osagie-Erese and lateraled to
JoAnna Saad for the touchdown. The Lakers led 20-0 at the halftime break.
On the opening drive of the third quarter, Schau found Santos for a 66-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead 27-0.
The Lakers final two scores of the game came from the defense. Santos intercepted the Gators, returning the ball 18 yards for the score followed by and
Alexis Summers pick 6, giving the Lakers their first win in program history, 40-0.
Game 3 vs. Marymount
An early score form the Lakers was the difference in the third and final game of the day for the Lakers. On their second drive of the game, Schau found Mullaly for a 24-yard touchdown pass to put the Lakers up 7-0.
The Lakers defense stood tall the rest of the game, including a stop on 4
th-and-goal in the third quarter to protect their advantage.
The Lakers are back in action March 21 at home as they welcome SUNY Geneseo.
