Flag Football Falls Short Against Roberts Wesleyan

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst flag football team fell to Roberts Wesleyan, 13-0, Sunday afternoon at Saxon Stadium. Prior to the game, the Lakers honored the program's lone senior, Ellie Schau.

The first half was a defensive battle between the Lakers and the Redhawks. The two sides went back-and-forth in the opening quarter, but neither side could find momentum, punting multiple times.

The second quarter was more of the same, with the teams punting on the first four drives of the second stanza.

The Lakers strung together a long drive as time dwindles in the first half, making their way into the redzone. However, the Lakers weren't able to convert turning the ball over on downs with 14 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Redhawks capitalized on their first drive of the second half, as Aimee Turner ran for a 20-yard touchdown for the first score of the game. Turner also completed the extra point, giving Roberts Wesleyan a 7-0 lead.

After a turnover from the Lakers, the Redhawks capitalized, adding on their lead with a touchdown in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. A 15-yard touchdown pass on fourth down put the Redhawks up 13-0.

A pair of turnovers and a punt form the Lakers halted the Lakers from making a comeback attempt in the final minutes, falling 13-0.

The Lakers are back in action for four games next weekend as they host Mount St. Mary's and Franciscan.
