3/1/2026 6:34:00 PM

ALMA, Mich.  – The Mercyhurst STUNT team traveled slightly west this weekend for the Scots STUNT Tournament hosted by Alma College. The Lakers performed really well, defeating Central Michigan, Lewis, and winning a close game vs. Purdue Northwest. Their only loss came to the hosts, Alma.

In game one, Mercyhurst faced Central Michigan. The Lakers were at the top of their game to start the tournament. They earned a point in each round of the first three quarters. In the meantime, the Chippewas had not scored a single point. In the fourth quarter, The Lakers earned three possible points in the first three rounds. In the final round of the game, MU selected routine number two. CMU earned their first two points of the game, but the Lakers earned four and secured the victory, 26-2.

In the second game, the Lakers competed against Lewis. MU selected routine seven to start the game, a bold move that resulted in no points award. They made up for it in the next couple of rounds and led 2-1 after the first quarter. The pyramids and tosses quarter and the jumps and tumbling quarter both were narrow. Mercyhurst went 2-1-1 in quarter two and 1-2-1 in quarter three. The score was now 8-7 in favor of the Lakers with a decisive fourth quarter ahead. The Lakers executed the final quarter in impressive fashion. They beat the Flyers in every round, and earned their second win of the day, 20-11.

On day two, Mercyhurst was up against Alma on their home court. The Scots proved to be the Lakers toughest opponent of the weekend. In the first quarter, they chose routines six and seven, won those, and then earned two points in each of the routines Mercyhurst chose. Alma won every single round except one, handed the Lakers their first and only loss of the tournament, and won, 27-7.

In the final game, the Lakers took on Purdue Northwest. This was arguably the best game of the four with how competitive and close it ended. The Lakers won the partner stunts quarter, 5-4. Each team earned a two-point round, and they both tied the final round. MU nailed their pyramids and tosses in the next quarter and extended their lead at halftime. The Pride fought back and nearly swept the Lakers in the jumps and tumbling quarter. At this point, the score was 13-11 in favor of the Lakers. The fourth quarter was as close as it could get. Both teams were earning points, which benefitted Mercyhurst. The Lakers were still earning points, even with the Pride winning a couple of rounds. The score was 22-20 in the final round, and Mercyhurst chose routine seven which locked in their third victory of the tournament.

The Lakers return home for their next set of games. They host Walsh and Hiram on Friday, March 6 beginning at 4 p.m.
