Lakers Fall in Tight 4-3 Battle at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst men's tennis team traveled to upstate New York to take on Colgate to kick off the month of March. After an opening conference victory against Le Moyne, the Lakers were looking to continue their strong performances against the Raiders.
 
In singles competition, Danylo Rekun battled on the first court and came away with a win for the Lakers, scoring 6-4 in each of his sets. Lukas Cabue Valverde followed with a win of his own, finishing his match with a 6-3 and 6-4 win. Petar Belosevic went on to battle through three sets in his match. Belosevic claimed victory in the opening set 6-3, but later fell 7-5 and 6-1. Colm Schultz also went to three sets during his matchup. Schultz fell in his first set 6-3 before storming back and coming away with a 7-6 win along with a 7-4 tiebreaker. Schultz ultimately fell in his final set 6-1. Mykhailo Polishchuck fell in his singles match 6-4 and 7-6 with a 7-1 tiebreaker. Nikola Radisic continued his strong play with a pair of 6-2 wins, earning the Lakers their 3rd singles win of the day.
 
In doubles competition, the team of Schultz/Belosevic opened on the first court for the Lakers, falling 6-4 in a tight battle. The team of Rekun/Cabue fell in another tight match 6-4. The final Laker team of Raul Davalos and Radisic came away with a Laker win by a score of 7-6 and 7-5 tiebreaker.
 
The Raiders ultimately fell the Lakers by a score of 4-3.
 
The Lakers will next host the Sharks of Long Island at Westwood Raquet Club on Tuesday, March 17. Start time set for 11:00 AM.
