NASHVILLE, Tenn. —The Mercyhurst baseball team traveled down to Nashville to play Murray State at Jackson Field. The Lakers fought, but fell to the Racers 12-4.
Mercyhurst's offense managed six hits, including a home run, while Murray State capitalized with a seven-run fourth inning.
Riley Ames put the Lakers on the board in the third inning with a solo home run to left field. However, Murray State responded with two runs in their half of the inning, including an RBI triple and an RBI groundout, giving them a 2-1 lead after three innings.
Murray State extended its lead significantly in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. The inning featured an RBI double, a steal of home, and several walks and errors contributing to the scoring. By the end of the fourth, Murray State led 9-1.
In the sixth inning, the Mercyhurst managed to cut into the deficit with
Ranciel Ventura doubling down the left field line, driving in two runs. Murray State added one run in their half, making it 12-3 through six innings.
The Lakers added another run in the eighth when Ventura singled through the right side, bringing home
Jayden Walker. However, the Lakers couldn't mount a further comeback. The final score was Murray State 12, Lakers 4.
Matt Delvaux started the game and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing nine earned runs on eight hits, including two doubles and one triple, while issuing three walks and a hit batter.
Ryan Okopal came in relief, pitching one inning with two earned runs on two hits, two walks, and a hit batter.
Mitch Harder closed the game with 3.2 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits and striking out two batters, maintaining a WHIP of 0.94, which was the best among the Lakers pitchers.
Jayden Walker scored two runs and collected one hit, contributing to the team's offensive effort.
Ranciel Ventura recorded three RBIs and added two hits, including a double, showcasing his impact at the plate.
Riley Ames hit a home run, driving in one run and crossing the plate himself.
Dana Williams provided defensive stability with four assists, maintaining a strong presence on the field.
