LIVERPOOL, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's tennis team traveled to Liverpool, N.Y. to take on the Dolphins of Le Moyne in their first NEC matchup of the season. With more NEC opponents on the horizon, the Lakers were looking to secure an early victory against the Dolphins.
 
In singles competition, Daria Rogova opened the singles matches for the Lakers with a resounding pair of wins at 6-2 and 6-1. Simone Mercier supported with another Laker win with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Kiersten Brown secured the 3^rd Laker win in 3 sets. In her first set, Brown came away with a 7-6 win along with a 7-5 tiebreaker. This was followed up by dropping her next set 6-0, but then rebounding with a 6-4 win. Ellyana Jacobs dropped her opening set 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker as well as the final set 6-2. Celeste Davis earned the 4^th Laker win by scores of 6-4 and 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker. Mollie Gray finished the day dropping both of her sets 6-0 and 6-1.
 
In doubles competition, the team of Davis and Rogova were unable to come away with the win, falling 6-4. The team of Gray/Jacobs fell in their match 6-0 while Brown and Mercier came away with a strong 6-2 win.
 
The Lakers ultimately secured their first NEC win of the year by a score of 4-3.
 
The Blue and Green will next travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to take on Colgate Sunday, March 1.
