Schultz Prepares

Men's Tennis Hosts Youngstown State, Falls 4-0

Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's tennis team hosted the Penguins of Youngstown State for their first home match of the season at Westwood Raquet Club. The Lakers were looking to put their best foot forward on their home court as they approach NEC play.
 
In singles competition, Danylo Rekun had a strong opening set, winning 6-4 before falling 6-3 and 6-2 in the proceeding sets. Lukas Cabue Valverde defeated his opponent in the opening set 6-4, but later fell 6-1. His match went unfinished. Petar Belosevic fell in both of his sets 6-2 and 6-1. Colm Schultz put in a strong performance for the Blue and Green, but fell by scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Mykhailo Polishchuk won his first set by a score of 7-5, but his match went unfinished after a 2-2 draw. Nikola Radisic rounds out the Lakers singles matchups with an opening set win of 6-4, but his match was also unfinished after leading his final set 5-4.
 
In doubles competition, the team of Schultz/Belosevic opened Laker double play falling in their matchup 6-4. The team of Rekun/Cabue took their matchup deep, but ultimately fell 6-4. The final Laker team of Polishchuk and David Mengher fell 6-1.
 
The Lakers ultimately fell to the Penguins 4-0.
 
The Blue and Green will next travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on Le Moyne for their first NEC matchup of the season Tuesday, February 24. Start time set for 11:30 AM.
