Men's Tennis Falls 4-3 in Tight Battle With Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mercyhurst men's tennis team traveled to Cleveland for a contest against the Vikings of Cleveland State on Thursday. After starting off the season against the liked of Penn State and Bucknell, the Lakers were looking to fight hard in enemy territory as they searched for their first win of the season.
 
In singles competition, Danylo Rekun fell in his match with both sets finishing 6-3. Lukas Cabue Valverde fought hard to contend in his match, but ultimately fell 7-5 and then 6-3. Petar Belosevic won his first singles match of the season. His sets finished with an opening loss of 7-6 before he came out on top in the next set 6-3. He would eventually claim victory after a 6-3 tiebreaker. Colm Schultz also battled, but ultimately fell 6-1 and 6-3. Mykhailo Polishchuk came away with his first win of the year and defeated his opponent 6-4 in both of his sets. Nikola Radisic had a dominating finish to singles competition for the Lakers, winning 6-1 and 6-2.
 
In doubles competition, the team of Belosevic/Schultz battled, but fell to their opponent 6-4 while the team of Rekun/Cabue fell 6-2. The team of Polishchuk and David Mengher fell in their matchup 6-1.
 
The Lakers ultimately fell in a tight 4-3 battle with the Vikings.
 
The Blue and Green will host the Penguins of Youngstown State next on Friday, February 20. Start time set for 6:30 PM at Westwood Racquet Club.
