ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team continued their season at day two of the Michigan Invitational. They went on to lose 15-4 to Michigan in game one, and 23-4 to UC Davis in game two.
Game One
In the first quarter, Michigan scored five straight goals to take a 5-0 lead going into the second quarter.
The Wolverines continued the offensive surge with six goals in the second quarter to take a 11-0 lead into the half.
The Lakers opened up the third quarter with a goal 25 seconds in from sophomore
Victoria Mastrangelo. Mercyhurst kept the offense rolling with their second goal coming from junior
Marley Hanlon. Their third consecutive goal came from freshman
Mercedes Feliciano-Fernandez. Michigan responded with two goals of their own to extend their lead going into the fourth.
It was all defense from both sides for the majority of the fourth quarter. Michigan was able to score a goal with just under two minutes left. Mercyhurst quickly responded with a goal from Mastrangelo, her second of the game. The Wolverines responded with another goal, taking a 15-4 victory.
Game Two
In the first quarter, the Aggies scored seven consecutive goals, taking a 7-0 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, UC Davis opened out with a goal to extend their lead. Sophomore
Victoria Mastrangelo scored a goal to get the Lakers on the board. The Aggies scored five more goals to take a 13-1 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, UC Davis continued scoring with another goal. Freshman
Mercedes Feliciano-Fernandez got on the board for Mercyhurst. The Aggies responded with two goals of their own. Senior
Bri Allstun countered for the Lakers and got on the board for her first goal of the game. UC Davis responded with a goal, but Feliciano-Fernandez responded with her second goal of the game.
The Aggies continued displaying their offense with six more goals, ending the game with a 23-4 victory.
The Lakers are back in action February 21 when they go to the Bucknell Invitational to face Princeton at 11:30 a.m. and Saint Francis at 6:00 p.m.
