1/30/2026 10:10:00 PM

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ACHA team traveled down I-79 to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to take on the Panthers for their final matchup of the regular season on Friday. After sweeping their conference matchups against RIT and Robert Morris, the Lakers were looking to move further up the conference standings as the postseason approaches.

Katie Spindel got the start in net for the Lakers, her 5th of the season.

In the 1st period, the Lakers earned an early power play opportunity, but were unable to capitalize. The Pitt power play unit hit the ice twice throughout the period as well, but the Laker penalty kill was strong and fended off their attackers. The Panthers were sent to the box one more time before the end of the period, but the Lakers were unable to score.

In the 2nd period, Pitt was able to score a pair of early goals, both before the 4-minute mark. At 9:59, Marina Evert was able to score a shorthanded goal for the Lakers to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of Pitt. Despite late penalties by both teams, neither were able to find the back of the net, leaving the score at 2-1 heading into the intermission.

In the 3rd period, Pitt scored a pair of late goals to solidify their win at 4-1.

Spindel stopped 34 of her 37 shots faced.

The Lakers will next host Niagara at the Mercyhurst Ice Center Friday, February 6. Puck drop set for 7 PM.
