ERIE, Pa. — The Mercyhurst women's basketball team edged the New Haven, 66-63, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center, using a strong first half with nine 3-point makes to secure their fourth straight victory. The Lakers capitalized on turnovers, scoring 24 points off the Chargers' 22 turnovers to secure the win.

Jenna Van Schaik led the way with 25 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field while adding three steals and four assists.

The Lakers opened the game with a strong offensive display, highlighted by Van Schaik's contributions, including two 3-pointers and a layup, leading to a 13–2 run by the 6:06 mark.

Lena Walz also added to the scoring with two 3-pointers, one at 6:49 and another at 6:06, further extending their lead.

The Green and Blue's defense capitalized on the Chargers' turnovers, resulting in quick transitions and fastbreak points. By the end of the quarter, Mercyhurst held a commanding 21–9 lead.

The Lakers widened their lead with a strong performance in the second quarter, highlighted by a 3-pointer from
Cici Hernandez at 4:03 and a fast-break layup by Van Schaik at 4:49.

The home team controlled the quarter with efficient shooting beyond the arc, converting four 3-pointers. Additionally, the Lakers capitalized on turnovers, recording four steals and zero turnovers, which contributed to their defensive efforts. They ended the quarter leading 42–22.

The Lakers maintained control during the third quarter with a key performance from Hernandez, who hit back-to-back 3-pointers at 7:29 and 6:39, extending the lead to 48-27. She ended the night with five made shots from beyond the arc.
Van Schaik added to the advantage with a pair of layups, including a fast-break score at 1:57 following a steal, pushing the score to 52-32. Despite New Haven's efforts, including a late 3-pointer, Mercyhurst concluded the quarter ahead 52-37.

Mercyhurst maintained its lead through effective free-throw shooting, sinking 14-of-18 attempts in the final quarter. Despite New Haven closing the gap with a late surge, Mercyhurst held on.
Sofia Wilson and Hernandez each contributed crucial free throws in the closing seconds to secure the victory.
