BOSTON – Atlantic Hockey America released their players of the week for the Jan. 12-18 slate of games.
Abby Poitras was named the AHA Defenseman of the Week for the first time this season.
Magdalena Luggin was named the AHA Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season.
Poitras, a sophomore transfer from Merrimack, has been a tremendous addition to the Laker's defense this season. The native of Whitby, Ontario has 3 goals and 9 assists for 12 points. All three of her goals have been clinical game-winners. This past weekend against RIT, Poitras scored the game-winning goal in each game of the series. She netted the Laker's fourth goal in a 5-3 victory in the first game with just 35 seconds left in the second period. In the second contest, she netted the winner in their 2-1 win in overtime. Her other goal this season came just a few weeks ago when she netted the winning overtime goal with 1.6 seconds on the clock in the Laker's 2-1 win against Lindenwood. Poitras also has 51 blocks, which lead the team and put her at 14th in the nation.
Luggin was named the AHA Goaltender of the Week for the fifth time in her career. The native of Vienna, Austria has played in 24 games this season and started in 23. She has a 12-9-2 record, a 2.37 goals allowed average, and a save percentage of .921. Her 652 this season saves are 7th in the nation. The Laker's sophomore netminder kept shutouts against No. 10 St. Lawrence and RIT in 2025 and posted a career-high 56 saves against No. 1 Wisconsin. This past weekend, Luggin made 41 total saves, allowed four goals, and had an average save percentage of .913 in the series against RIT.
