Men’s Hockey Splits Series with Army

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's hockey team hosted Army for game two of their first home series of 2026. Last night, the Lakers dominated the Black Knights and shut them out 3-0. However, Army flipped the script tonight and defeated Mercyhurst 5-0.

The first period began with a strong offensive push from Mercyhurst (1-18-1, 1-10-1 AHA). They won multiple faceoffs and generated several scoring opportunities early on. Despite their efforts, Army (8-10-5, 3-9-3 AHA) capitalized on their chances, scoring the opening goal at 7:39. The Lakers continued to press, maintaining possession and applying pressure, but the Black Knights extended their lead at 4:12. The period concluded with the Lakers trailing 2-0.

Mercyhurst struggled to gain momentum in the second period as Army extended their lead. An early goal at 15:48 and a subsequent power-play goal at 11:24 increased the deficit to four. Despite several attempts by the Lakers, including shots from Andrew LeBlanc and Ryan Coughlin, they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. The period ended with them trailing 4-0.

The Lakers faced challenges in the third period as they were unable to capitalize on multiple power play opportunities. Despite several attempts, including shots by Jacob Leblanc and Connor Pelc, they could not find the back of the net. Army West Point extended their lead with a short-handed goal at 12:12, making it difficult for the Lakers to shift the momentum. The Black Knights were resilient from the blueline tonight and game concluded 5-0.

The Lakers will host Niagara for their next game. Puck drop will take place Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
