MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Mercyhurst field hockey dropped the second game of its weekend road series, falling to Central Michigan, 2-1, in a tightly contested matchup.
The first quarter remained scoreless until Central Michigan broke through 11 minutes in making it 1-0. The Lakers own Catherine Hudak answered four minutes into the second quarter with her first goal of the season assisted by Marina Evert. Hudak's goal was set up by a strong offensive push from Delaney Lentz and Evert.
The score held at 1-1 through the rest of the second quarter, thanks to five key saves from Louise Pert in the final five minutes.
The third quarter remained scoreless despite shot attempts by Hudak, Lentz and Anna Muscat.
An opening series of fouls in the fourth quarter opened the door for the Chippewas, as a penalty corner allowed Madelyn Camryn to score her second goal of the game. The Lakers failed to answer back, as Central Michigan held on for the win.
The Lakers have a brief hiatus before returning to action Friday, September 12 at Cornell.
