Easton, MA – The Mercyhurst Softball team faced Stonehill in game three of their series. Yesterday, the Lakers split the doubleheader and earned their first NEC win of the season. Today, Stonehill came back to earn a 4-3 victory.
How it Happened
The Lakers got on the board early, just as they did yesterday. After
Karlie Kasten singled to second base, she ended up scoring off of a sacrifice fly from
Mackenzie Gillis. In the top of the third,
Jazlynn Sanders hit another bomb to center field for her sixth homer of the season to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. Meanwhile,
Bailey Cannon allowed just one hit in the first three innings.
The Skyhawks got on the board in the bottom of the fourth which gave them the lead. This began with Melanie Snyder hitting a home run to left center field. They kept things rolling with an RBI single and a double that brought in two batters and all of a sudden it was 4-2 Stonehill. The Lakers recorded a few hits in the top of the fifth and finally got one back in the top of the sixth when
Bailey Cannon scored on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lakers prevented Stonehill from scoring on a terrific double play between
Cameryn Mullaly and
Jazlynn Sanders, who did a full split to finish the play. However, the Skyhawks closed out the top of the seventh and took this one 4-3.
