Moon Township, PA – The Mercyhurst Softball team went on one of their shorter road trips this season to face Robert Morris University. The Colonials won the first game 8-0 in five innings and then fought back to win game two 11-3 in six innings.
Game One
RMU got on the board first from a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second, Makayla Jardine scored on a single from Kaylyn Hopf. Then, Anna Resnik hit a three-run home run to left field which gave the Colonials a 5-0 lead through just two innings. In the top of the third,
Karlie Kasten hit a single deep in the six hole, but the Lakers were unable to capitalize on what ended up being their only hit of the game. RMU continued to score and ended up winning this game 8-0 after five innings.
Game Two
The Lakers were the first to get the barrels going in this one. They quickly took a 1-0 lead from an RBI single from
Natasha McLellan-Tam that brought in
Eliza Reynolds. In the top of the second,
Lauren Henrich hit a bomb to center field for her second home run of the season. Then,
Eliza Reynolds hit one off the center field fence to allow
Shailene Riemedio to score and the Lakers took a 3-0 lead.
RMU immediately tied the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Makayla Jardine, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly to center field. In the next inning, Lilly Stump hit a two RBI double to give the Colonials their first lead. The Lakers picked up a few more hits but were unable to add to their tally. RMU ended up scoring eleven unanswered to win this one 11-3 after six innings.

The Lakers will travel to Syracuse for their last conference series against Le Moyne College. The first pitch is set for Saturday, April 26th at 1:00 PM.
