Erie, PA – The Mercyhurst Stunt team hosted several teams in a weekend series of competition featuring six total games. Northern Kentucky University, Ashland University, and Central Michigan University all made the trip to Erie. Mercyhurst dominated in in their first game, shutting out NKU. They then fell to Ashland and defeated Central Michigan to go 2-1 on the weekend.
How it Happened
Game One
The Lakers dominated the first quarter against the Norse. They nailed all of their partner stunts and earned all four points. A slight hiccup in the very beginning of the second quarter would prove to be meaningless as the Lakers then went on to earn twelve consecutive points. A near flawless performance from the Lakers in the team routine quarter capitalized on a 22-0 shutout victory to secure their second conference victory of the season.
Game Two
Ashland University proved to be Mercyhurst's closest competition of the weekend. The first quarter ended 2-2 which set the tone going forward. Mercyhurst took a 4-3 lead going into halftime after an impressive pyramid and tosses performance. Round two of the fourth quarter was truly cinematic as both teams earned all three possible points. However, the Eagles earned 14 of the 16 total remaining points in the second half and prevailed to beat Mercyhurst 17-11.
Game Three
Mercyhurst took on the Central Michigan University Chippewas in game three. The partner stunt quarter ended 3-2 in favor of the Lakers. However, the Chippewas began performing well and leveled the score to make it 4-4 at halftime. In the third quarter, both teams entered the mat ready to tumble. The score remained tied as it was 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Here, the Lakers executed their routines very well and earned all three points in round two and three. A very well-rounded performance from the Lakers this weekend was capped off by their 17-10 victory over the Chippewas.
