Stunt Earns Dominant Wins at Alma Tournament

Alma, MI – Mercyhurst Stunt had an action-packed weekend at the Alma Tournament, finishing with a 2-2 record. After tough losses to Alma 24-1 and Ashland 20-8, the Lakers bounced back with thrilling victories, dominating the University of Michigan 21-0 and edging out Central Michigan University 12-10 to close out the weekend on a high note.

How it Happened

Game 1:

Mercyhurst's opening game of the tournament was a challenging one, as they faced off against a tough Alma team. The game started with a battle in the first quarter, with Alma jumping to a 4-0 lead. Despite a strong effort from the Lakers, the deficit widened in the second quarter, and they found themselves trailing 8-1 at halftime. The third quarter saw Alma extend their advantage to 12-1, and in the final frame, the Lakers couldn't keep up, falling 24-1.

Game 2: 

The second game of the day saw Mercyhurst go up against Ashland, where the Lakers fought hard. The first quarter was tight, with both teams exchanging points, ending at 1-1. Ashland started to take control in the second quarter, outscoring Mercyhurst 5-3, as the Lakers trailed by 2 at halftime. The Lakers scored once more in the third quarter and scored four more times in the final quarter. Despite Mercyhurst's efforts, the Eagles continued to capitalize, as they outpaced the Lakers, ending with a 20-8 final score. 

Game 3: 

In an absolutely monumental win, Mercyhurst stunned the University of Michigan in a 21-0 victory. Michigan, a Power 5 school, couldn't get anything going as the Lakers dominated in a shutout win. Mercyhurst came out strong in the first quarter, leading 3-0, and continued their relentless performance throughout the game. By halftime, they led 6-0, and Michigan never found a way to break through. The Lakers kept adding points in the third (10-0) and sealed the win in the fourth with an impressive 21-0 scoreline. This win is one for the history books, as it's a huge statement against one of the premier schools in the country.

Game 4:

The final game of the tournament saw the Lakers pull off a nail-biting win over Central Michigan, finishing with a hard-fought 12-10 victory. Mercyhurst got off to a solid start with a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 6-2 by halftime. The third quarter ended with Mercyhurst leading 8-4, but Central Michigan came alive in the fourth, mounting a comeback that kept the score close. In the end, Mercyhurst held strong, exchanging points with Central Michigan and clinching a 12-10 win in a thrilling finish.

Up Next

The Lakers return home next weekend, hosting Northern Kentucky University on March 1st, followed by Ashland University and Central Michigan University on March 2nd.
