Mercyhurst Drops Senior Day Match vs. Stonehill

Erie, PA.- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team took on Stonehill University in a tough battle at home, ultimately losing  69-62. Mercyhurst kept it close nearly the entirety of the game, however, some foul trouble in the final minute of the game allowed Stonehill to pull away with the win.

How It Happened:

Saturday's game was evenly matched, with both teams connecting on either side, scoring consistently, and making great plays on defense as well. The game was close, tied, or with the Lakers trailing by a small margin for the majority of the game until things took a turn in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

When the Lakers came up unlucky for a few foul calls, and Stonehill was able to sink their shots from the line, there simply was not enough time to come back from the seven-point lead the Skyhawks had pulled away with.

Mercyhurst celebrated five seniors in their Senior Day game, Allyson Ross, Maria McConnell, Singo Lekeuneu, Lauryn Stover, and Ava Waid. These Lakers' dedication to the program and their impressive performances in Mercyhurst's first year in the NEC were nothing but special!

Highlights:

Despite the loss, Mercyhurst led in points in the paint with 38, rebounds with 38, and field goals with 35. Bailey Kuhns, Allyson Ross, and Jenna Van Schaik led the charge points-wise. Kuhns totaled 22 for the afternoon, combining this stat with 10 rebounds for a double-double, Ross sank 15, and Van Schaik 14. Ross scored 9 of her 15 points from distance, leading the team in three-pointers with three.

Up Next:

The Lakers are set to match up with Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA on Thursday, February 20th at 6:00 pm.
