Box Score Erie, PA.- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team beat Central Connecticut State University 76-74 on Thursday evening. This game came down to the wire, but the Laker's resilient offense ultimately called it.
How It Happened:
Over a month since their last matchup with CCSU, Mercyhurst came out hungry for another NEC win. Though the game was close, and both teams were scoring at a consistent pace, there were multiple aspects to the Lakers game that sealed the deal.
Firstly, Mercyhurst was able to sink nine three balls, largely contributing to their win. They also went 19 for 23 at the free throw line, their capitalization from the line was a key factor in their success.
Jenna Van Schaik was dominant in the game, her speed on and off of the ball proving hard for the Blue Devils' defense. Allyson Ross was also a huge contributor to the game defensively, totaling nine rebounds, her scrappy plays under the net kept CCSU's offense at bay.
The Lakers and Blue Devils were taking the lead back and forth in the final quarter, but it was Van Schaik's clinical performance from the line and a clutch three from Alena Fusetti that guaranteed the win.
Highlights:
Mercyhurst was in the lead at the end of each quarter of today's game, a wildly different outcome from their past performance against CCSU where they were defeated by nearly 20 points.
Jenna Van Schaik and Bailey Kuhns lead the offense, Van Schaik with 22 points and Kuhns with 20. Van Schaik also led in assists with four.
