DAVIDSON, N.C. — Mercyhurst fell to Davidson College 80–47 on Saturday afternoon at Belk Arena. The Lakers turned in a solid defensive effort that included five blocks.
Davidson established control early, answering Bernie Blunt III opening basket that tied the game at 2–2 with a quick run. Blunt later connected on a three-pointer, and Qadir Martin added a jumper and a layup as the Lakers looked to stay within reach, but the Wildcats continued to build separation.
Turnovers proved costly in the opening half, as the Lakers committed six while Davidson had four. Mercyhurst shot 29.2 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes, while Davidson converted at a 50 percent clip. The Wildcats took a 36–15 lead into halftime.
Mercyhurst showed renewed energy early in the second half, highlighted by a Jake Lemelman three-pointer at the 16-minute mark that trimmed the deficit. Blunt III and Deshaun Jackson Jr. followed with key layups and assists as the Lakers worked to apply pressure. Davidson, however, responded with sustained scoring in the paint and efficient ball movement to pull away.
Davidson finished with 44 points in the paint and closed the game strong to secure the 80–47 victory.
Blunt led Mercyhurst with 15 points, knocking down three beyond the arc and adding two assists. Martin scored eight points while recording four blocks and five rebounds. Jackson Jr. chipped in six points and four assists, while Lemelman added seven points and four assists.
