The Mercyhurst women's basketball team heads to Buffalo Sunday in search of their first win on the season. The Lakers will meet Canisius for the first time in program history.

The Opponent
The Golden Griffins are winless on the season, but have face tough opposition to big the season, including #13/15 Michigan, Syracuse, and Cincinnati. Canisius has also faced Cornell and Dayton this season, falling to both squads. The Griffs also lost to St. Bonaventure, 66-61, who the Lakers are scheduled to play Dec. 12. The Griffs return nine players from last season and brought in five transfers and one true freshman. Canisius was picked ninth out of 13 in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Forward Shariah Gailes was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team.
Last Time Out
Mercyhurst took on its second ranked opponent of the season in No. 12 Iowa State Sunday in Ames. The Lakers had a hot start to the game, making 9-of- 18 shots, including four 3-pointers in the first quarter and trailed by two after 10 minutes of play. However, they struggled in the second scoring just nine points, allowing the Cyclones to pull away with a 58-35 lead at halftime. Iowa State improved to 7-0 with a 112-62 win over the Lakers.

Mercyhurst had its first game with three players in double figures at Iowa State Sunday.
Jenna Van Schaik (17),
Sofia Wilson (13), and
Lena Walz (10) all reached double digits, helping the Lakers to their first game with 60+ points on the season.
