Second Half Surge Leads Mercyhurst Football to 27-13 Victory over Robert Morris

ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst secured a 27-13 victory over Robert Morris at Saxon Stadium, with a standout 56-yard rushing touchdown from Brian Trobel contributing to the win. The Lakers have a chance to share the regular season NEC title with Central Connecticut with a win over the Blue Devils next weekend.
 
Brian Trobel's rush, combined with a penalty against Robert Morris, advanced the Lakers to their own 42-yard line on the opening drive. Adam Urena connected with Dylan Evans for multiple completions, moving the team deep into Robert Morris territory. Max Young capped off the drive with a successful 36-yard field goal, putting the Lakers up 3-0.
 
Mercyhurst's defense then held firm, forcing a punt after sacking Robert Morris' quarterback for a loss. On their next possession, the Lakers again moved the ball effectively, with Ayron Rodriguez securing a key first down on an 11-yard rush. However, the drive ended with an interception. The quarter concluded with Mercyhurst maintaining a 3-0 lead.
 
The Lakers (5-6, 4-2 NEC) opened the second quarter with a strong defensive stand, halting Robert Morris's progress and forcing a punt. Following the change of possession, Urena connected with Camden Lewis for a key 12-yard completion, moving the chains and igniting the home team's offense. Despite a setback due to a false start, the Lakers continued to build momentum.
 
In the ensuing drives, the home team capitalized on another series of completions by Urena, including a significant 27-yard pass to Taylor Wright-Rawls. This momentum carried through to the end of the quarter, with Mercyhurst advancing to the Robert Morris 21-yard line. Young capped off the drive with a successful 38-yard field goal, extending the Green and Blue's lead to 6-0 as the half concluded. The 38-yard make is a career-long for Young.
 
Mercyhurst began the third quarter with a strong defensive stance, but Robert Morris managed to convert a field goal at 11:50, leveling the score at 6-6. On the ensuing drive, the Lakers responded strategically. Urena connected with Braydon Black and Colin Melendez for consecutive first downs, setting up a 53-yard touchdown run by Trobel. Young's successful extra point extended Mercyhurst's lead to 13-6.
 
Following the kickoff, Robert Morris advanced the ball but was halted by a forced fumble, recovered by Mercyhurst's Jaiden Allos at the RMU 43-yard line. This turnover shifted momentum back to the Lakers. Later in the quarter, despite a potential interception negated by a penalty, Trobel capitalized with a 1-yard touchdown run as time expired. The successful point after brought the score to 20-6, closing the quarter with Mercyhurst firmly ahead.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Green and Blue responded decisively after Robert Morris closed the gap to 20-13 with a rushing touchdown by Ethan Shine. Mercyhurst's Trobel ignited the response with a 56-yard rush, setting up a scoring drive that ended with Urena connecting with Lewis for a 7-yard touchdown pass. This extended Mercyhurst's lead to 27-13.
 
Mercyhurst's defense then held strong, with Jonas King recording a sack for a 4-yard loss, and Teddy McDuffie Jr. stopping Dudley on a critical fourth down at the Hurst 29-yard line. The Lakers maintained possession and ran out the clock, securing a 27-13 victory at the game's conclusion.
 
Trobel led the offensive charge, rushing 16 times for 150 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Senior quarterback Urena completed 19 of 27 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown. On defense, Jake Miller recorded seven tackles and forced a fumble. Freshman kicker Young converted two field goals, with a long of 38 yards, and making all three extra-point attempts.
