ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst fell to Bentley 3-1 on Tuesday night, with the Lakers' lone goal coming in the first period. Bentley added two goals in the third period to secure the victory.
The first period began with the Lakers gaining early control, winning face-offs and testing Bentley's defense with several attempts. Despite the initial pressure, Bentley scored the first goal at 6:14, placing the Green and Blue behind by one. The Lakers responded quickly, maintaining offensive pressure. This paid off when
Will Schumacher equalized at 17:18 with assistance from
Christian Kocsis and
Noah Sedore. The period concluded with the score tied at 1-1, setting an even stage for the upcoming period.
The second period began with the Falcons winning the initial faceoff, allowing them to apply early pressure. Laker goaltender,
Charles-Edward Gravel, made a series of saves to keep the opponents at bay. Bentley's offensive surge was met with resilience from the Laker defense, including a block by
Dominik Bartecko. Midway through the period, the Lakers found their stride.
Brendan Lamb won multiple faceoffs, allowing the Green and Blue to increase their shot attempts on Bentley's goaltender. Despite several opportunities, including shots from
John Larkin and
Caleb Price, Mercyhurst was unable to convert any chances into goals. The period concluded with neither team altering the scoreboard, maintaining the scoreless tie.
The third period began with Mercyhurst winning the opening faceoff, but Bentley quickly gained the upper hand. At 19:08 the Falcons found the back of the net, giving them a 2-1 lead. Just moments later the Falcons found a third goal, but a challenge by the Lakers found that goal called off for high sticking. Mercyhurst responded with attempts from Larkin and
Kaden Muir, but Bentley's defense held firm. As the period continued, the Lakers' efforts to equalize were met with resistance, with several shots blocked or saved. Mercyhurst called a timeout with 2:27 remaining, pulling the goalie for an extra attacker. Despite the aggressive push, Bentley capitalized with an empty-net goal at 1:29, extending their lead to 3-1. The Lakers continued to pressure, but the period concluded with no further scoring changes, sealing a 3-1 victory for the Falcons.
Schumacher scored his third goal of the season, finishing with three shots on net. Lamb excelled at the faceoff circle, winning 12 out of 17 faceoffs for a 70 percent success rate. Gravel made 29 saves in goal, allowing two goals in the game.
Matteo Disipio posted a 60 percent faceoff win rate, securing three of five attempts.
The Lakers will host Bentley again tomorrow, Saturday November 1 at 5:00 p.m.
