Volleyball Brings Momentum into Second Weekend of Homestand vs. Stonehill

The Mercyhurst volleyball team enters the fifth week of NEC action, set to play a weekend doubleheader against NEC opponent Stonehill. The Lakers look to continue their active two-game winning streak after sweeping New Haven last weekend. 
 
Previously From the Lakers:
The Lakers hosted NEC opponent New Haven for the first time in volleyball. Mercyhurst came out on top with a weekend sweep, winning both games 3-2 and 3-1.
 
The Watchlist:
Julia Shepherd leads the Lakers in kills with 197 on the season and averages 2.67 kills per set, which is seventh in the NEC. She took home NEC Prime Performer honors after her dominance against the Chargers. Shepherd obtained 34 kills on a .385 hitting percentage and seven blocks in the sweep.
 
Andrea Zaric continued being an offensive threat for the Lakers this past weekend, tallying 28 kills and generating 33.5 points for the Lakers. She also was helpful on the defensive side, recording 13 digs and five blocks to go with as well.
 
Alia Mastromatteo continued creating scoring opportunities for her teammates. She tallied 54 assists in the two games against Chargers, extending her total assists to 354. She also tallied 16 digs.
 
A Closer Look: Stonehill
  • Stonehill started 3-6 in conference play, defeating Le Monye twice and a victory against New Haven.
  • Outside Hitter Mia Berardino leads the team in kills with 278.
  • Libero Suzie Ponce leads the team with 180 digs.
  • The Lakers and the Skyhawks split their season series 1-1 in 2024.
