Lakers Fall to the CCSU Blue Devils in a Tough Battle on the Road

Lakers Fall to the CCSU Blue Devils in a Tough Battle on the Road

New Britain, Conn. - The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team clashed with Central Connecticut State University in their second game of conference play. The final score of the game was 78-52, with CCSU taking the win.

How it Happened:

This afternoon's game proved to be a tough one for the Lakers, as they took on the Blue Devils in their second conference game as a Division I program. Bailey Kuhns, the Laker's leading scorer this season, averaging 20.3 points per game, got Mercyhurst started with a layup at the halfway mark of the first quarter. Kuhns, along with Cici Hernandez, scored the bulk of the Laker's points, Hernandez having a breakthrough performance.

Though Mercyhurst trailed for the entirety of the game, promising moments were still had, both offensively and defensively. Allyson Ross and Quinn Borroni were both effective under the net, Ross earning five rebounds for the Lakers and Borroni earning four. On the attack, Ava Waid led the team in assists, with four, setting up her teammates against a tough CCSU defense.

Additionally, on the attack, freshman guard, Cici Hernandez put on a show from distance, scoring five three-pointers, now having scored twenty-three this season. Hernandez put up nineteen points total today, leading Laker scoring.

The Lakers fought hard in each minute of today's game. Though their efforts were not enough to earn the win this afternoon, the future of this program looks bright.

Highlights:

Our leading scorers in today's matchup were Cici Hernandez with 19 points and Bailey Kuhns with 14 points. Ava Waid led the Lakers in assists with 4, and Allyson Ross led in rebounds with 5.
