Box Score

Erie, Pa.- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team dominates the LIU Sharks, 78-51, in their final of a four-game series at home.

How It Happened:

In the first quarter of Mercyhurst's Kids Day and MLK celebratory matchup against LIU, the Lakers came out hungry from the start. Though the Sharks struck first, Allyson Ross was quick to respond with a driving layup. It was only up from there, as the Lakers went on to score back-to-back layups from Singo Lekeuneu and Jenna Van Schaik. For the remainder of the first ten, Mercyhurst went on a run, leading 22-13 by the end.

From the start of the second quarter, both teams struggled to finish shots, but it was Jenna Van Schaik who was able to get on the board first for the Lakers with a driving layup. Mercyhurst continued their relentless attack throughout the entire second quarter, however, it was their standout defensive effort that sealed the deal for them going into halftime. The Laker's speed, strength, and organization under their own net kept LIU from scoring for nearly six minutes straight. The score going into half was 33-19, Mercyhurst on top.

The third quarter was no different for the Lakers, who only briefly let the Sharks break a ten-point deficit. In this quarter, we saw great plays from Allyson Ross, Quinn Borroni, Bailey Kuhns, and Grace Strickland. These players kept up Mercyhurst's intensity on both ends, allowing the team to carry their lead into the final quarter. The score going into the fourth was 53-39.

In the final ten, Mercyhurst furthered the deficit, reaching their largest lead of the game as the clock wound down, dominating LIU by twenty-eight points. The highlights of the fourth quarter came from Bailey Kuhns and Singo Lekeuneu. Kuhns was able to draw multiple and-ones, driving the score forward, and Lekeuneu hit two back-to-back threes, helping Mercyhurst close out their second conference win of the season. The final score of today's game was 78-51, Mercyhurst.
