Box Score Erie Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team falls to the Wagner Seahawks in a tight game at the MAC
How it Happened:
The first quarter of this afternoon's game started slow for the Lakers, though the team was able to pull it together by the first ten's final buzzer. The bulk of Mercyhurst's points came from the free throw line, where the girls successfully went twelve for twelve. Bailey Kuhns, Jenna Van Schaik, Grace Clary, and Allyson Ross were all key contributors to the Laker's scoring efforts from both the line and inside the paint. Though scoring was back and forth for the majority of the first quarter, the Laker's consistency and ability to take advantage of free-throw opportunities was the driving force of their success as they went into the second quarter leading 20-15.
Both teams struggled to score, comparatively, in the second quarter, only scoring nine points, respectively. The first three of the day came in this quarter from Singo Lekeuneu, her first points of the day as well. Going into the half, leading over the Wagner College Seahawks 29-24, Bailey Kuhns led scoring with eleven points, She, Ross, and Clary also led the team in rebounds, each totaling two in the first half.
In the second half of this afternoon's matchup, the Seahawks hit their stride, giving Mercyhurst trouble under both nets. Their success in drawing multiple and-one's drove them to a short lead in the third quarter. The score going into the final was 50-46, the Lakers trailing. The fourth quarter of the game was a dog fight, Wagner continued to give Mercyhurst trouble under their net, though the Lakers remained resilient, battling it out on offense and defense. As Wagner continued to pull away, multiple fouls they drew at the end of the quarter put this game just out of Mercyhurst's reach. The final score of the game was 71-63, a Wagner victory.
