Lakers Set for Action in New York

1/17/2025 11:00:00 AM

Erie, Pa.- After nearly a week off, the Men's Basketball team is set to get back on road to take on Wagner tomorrow. The Lakers are looking to turn things around amidst their three-game skid. They've only grabbed one win in their past seven games.

On the Road:
Mercyhurst has had some tough luck on the road this season, especially in their past six games. The Lakers have just two road wins this season but are looking to match that total during their time in New York. As soon as they get back to Erie, the Lakers will then welcome both their foes that they'll be playing in New York. They'll be looking to lean on Graduate Student Jeff Planutis who has been nothing short of incredible throughout his time at the Hurst. He's scored a team-high 269 points so far in the campaign. He's also averaging 14.2 points a game. Bernie Blunt III and Aidan Reichert are also averaging more than 10 points for the Lakers.

Scouting Wagner:
Wagner will be a tough test for the Lakers as they continue through conference play. The Seahawks are coming off of a big win over Central Connecticut State. Zaire Williams will lead the charge for Wagner. He leads the team in points, but they'll also need to stop Javier Ezquerra from dishing the rock. He's recorded an impressive 79 assists this season.

Scouting LIU:
At the time of press, LIU is currently undefeated in conference play with wins over Le Moyne, Chicago State, Stonehill and Central Connecticut. In their latest win, they escaped with just a two point win over the Blue Devils. They'll be looking to remain undefeated in NEC play and they'll be looking to Malachi Davis to help them get there. Davis has averaged an impressive 17.3 points and has also tallied 50 assists on the season. Jamal Fuller is also having a solid season as he has been the second best scorer on the team. In order to get out of Long Island with a win, Mercyhurst will need to slow both of them down.

Next Game:
After their time in New York, Mercyhurst will finally return home to Erie. They'll welcome Wagner and LIU to town for a two game set. The action will kick off at 7:00 p.m. next Friday, January 24th when Mercyhurst takes on Wagner.
